Naked Malt Blended Scotch Whisky, 70cl
About this deal
Fresh cereal on the nose dominates the whisky’s aromatic profile, though it’s undercut by a significant nuttiness that is driven by the sherry finishing. Business in Atholl Street was good; Gloag had a wide knowledge of wines and spirits after managing the cellar of the Sheriff Clerk of Perthshire for more than 30 years.
Consumers and bartenders are looking for something more unique, which is why we wanted to move the brand on and change it.The only issues are it does kind of vary from year to year (at least in my opinion, and I tiddle it only every so often), and sometimes it can have that yucky Red Label smell. It’s engaging, but the whisky’s youth hardly hangs out in the background unseen, as those cereal notes poke their head quite a bit, giving the experience a somewhat rustic feel — perhaps naked, one might say.

But it will usher in a new name and look that reflects the brand’s growing appeal to a new generation of whisky drinkers.
These are barrels that have been used only once prior for the aging of sherry, and now are used for the first time to age the newly blended combination of scotch from multiple sources.Still not quite as strong as Johnnie Walker Red, but this is something that is downright enjoyable even sipped all on its own. As if to emphasise the family connection, it was Matthew III’s daughter, Phillippa, who drew the very first, and now famous, red grouse that we see on the bottle.
