About this deal
You’ll see the distance to your AirTag and the direction to head in — all thanks to Ultra Wideband technology. Testing conducted by Apple in March 2021 using preproduction AirTag units and software paired with iPhone11, iPhone11Pro, iPhone11ProMax, iPhone12mini, iPhone12, iPhone12Pro, and iPhone12ProMax units running preproduction software.
The owner won't be alerted to who found a lost AirTag, only that its location has been updated in the Find My network.
Users can also place AirTag into Lost Mode and be notified when it is in range or has been located by the vast Find My network. A passerby with an iPhone won't be alerted of the AirTag, but the AirTag can send you a notification if it accesses the Find My network while in Lost Mode.
Your AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the FindMy network.Precision Finding is compatible with iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple introduced a new second-generation Ultra Wideband chip in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9.
So not even Apple knows the location of your AirTag or the identity of the device that helps findit.Devices that relay the location of your AirTag also stay anonymous, and that location data is encrypted every step of the way. If the iPhone detects a device using the Find My network following the person around, perhaps in a backpack or vehicle, the iPhone will alert the user of the AirTag. When youʼve left something far behind, like at the beach or the gym, the Find My network — hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad and Mac devices around the world — helps track down your AirTag.
